Precious Blood of Jesus Christ Throughout Time and Eternity
Pretiosissimi Sanguinis Christi July 1st
The month of July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. It began with the fall of Adam and Eve, our first parents were who clothed in the skin of an animal whose blood had been shed. (Gen 3)
The blood of the animals shed for the sacrifice acceptable to God for our sins were a foreshadowing of the promise of the coming of the Messiah who would redeem mankind from Original Sin. Just as the blood of the Paschal Lamb sprinkled on the doorpost of the Israelites saved them from the death of their first born son.
The infant Jesus, first shed His Most Precious Blood for us at his circumcision according to the law of Moses. Then on Holy Thursday, Jesus entered into His agony and suffered as he foresaw his Passion and Death for our sins which were so horrific that "His sweat became as drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground" (Lk 22:44)
At the Scourging at the Pillar, after Pilate found no guilt of Jesus, to appease the Jews, he had the Roman Soldiers scourge Our Lord with a thousand blows according to the accounts of Venerable Mary of Agreda and St. Bridget. As in scene of the movie, the “Passion of Christ”, the Blessed Mother and St. Mary Magdalen gathered up the pools of the Precious Blood of Jesus with the linens given by Pilots wife. The movie was primarily based on Venerable Ann Catherine Emmerich's visions on the Passion.
Jesus poured out his Precious Blood with the cruel and painful Crown of Thorns, the Carrying of the Cross ( which most wounded Our Lord) and finally being nailed to the Cross, where he poured out every drop of blood for mankind!
Pointing the way as He reminds us of the treasure of His Precious Blood especially at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, there have been many Eucharistic miracles throughout the centuries.
One of the most important eucharistic miracles was of Lanciano, Italy. In the 700's a priest who was also monk was suffering doubts of the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, however on this occasion, when he said the words of consecration, the host became human flesh and the wine human blood. The flesh remained but the blood became five droplets of blood, representing the five wounds of Christ at the crucifixion. When later examined, the flesh has muscular tissue of the heart wall and the blood and flesh were found to have AB blood type.
Let us never forget how Jesus became man and suffered a horrific and humiliating death as if he was a criminal but for our crimes not His! Oh Precious Blood of Jesus Christ Save Us and the Whole World!
